Below we have a report on the second Teacher Training Seminar that took place this year at a Buddist Temple in Bronkhorstspruit about an hour's drive outside Johannesburg. This was an in-house retreat attended by approximately 60 delegates. The seminar was given by Stephanie Quirk and was the second of a six part seminar.

Teacher Training Seminar November 2009

STEPHANIE QUIRK SEMINAR - REPORT – NOVEMBER 2009
Submitted by: Jenny Geddes from Zimbawe

The Teacher Training Seminar this year took place in Gauteng. It was held at the NAN HUA TEMPLE at Bronkhorstpruit which is approximately 90 km north east of Johannesburg and is a working Buddhist Monastery.

The first two days of the Seminar there were 57 and was open to ALL Teachers. The numbers dropped to 45 for the last two days. It was decided to open up the course to those teachers who had completed the Introductory Course and had registered for the Junior Intermediate Course by the 1st September. This course was the last chance to join the series as Stephanie will not accept any new attendees as the courses are progressive and the first two provide the basis to build on for the whole of the series.

All regions were represented at the Seminar, Pretoria, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Kimberly, Port Elizabeth, East London, Durban, Hilton, Howick and Grootvlei. A big thank you must go to those who took photos and notes during the Seminar.

Special thanks go to Pat Deacon who dealt with all the registration and accounts and Denise Rundle who co-ordinated the Seminar.

The more advanced remedial work took place in the last two days of the Seminar. Stephanie covered problems with the spine and neck and how to correct them. She focused on how to first observe then decide what course of action to take and then execute the remedial adaptation of the pose needed to correct and relieve problems.

Stephanie has such a wealth of knowledge on the Remedial Aspects of Iyengar Yoga and has a down-to-earth sense of humour. The tranquillity and beauty of the surroundings, also the delicious vegetarian food enabled us work to our full potential. The meeting and interaction with old friends made this time at Nan Hua Temple very special.

I look forward eagerly to November 2010 when the 3rd course in the series will be held in Cape Town.
